MAGICAL ANDAMAN – MUST VISIT PLACES – PARADISE ISLAND

The Andaman Islands are a union territory of India. They comprise of 572 islands out of which only 38 are inhabited. 86% are reserved forests. It contains Islands of north sentinel where the inhabitants have never made human contact and is a restricted area by the Government.

The best way is to fly by air – you can take Air India, Spice jet, Indigo, Vistara, Air Asia mostly via Chennai or Kolkata.

HAVELOCK

The best way to reach Havelock is by private ferry that takes about 90 minutes from Port Blair. Government ferries are also available but they take a long time around 2.5 hours.

Radhanagar Beach

Radhanagar Beach is one of the largest beaches in India. A 2 km pristine white sand beach backed by turquoise water and lush forest, where you can relax and have a leisurely time. This beach was also ranked as the Best Beach in Asia by Times Magazine.

Elephant Beach

This tourist place is best known for snorkeling and water sports (Jet Ski, glass-bottom boat), the beach is a 20-mins ferry ride from Swaraj Dweep Jetty. The boat ride to Elephant beach passing through the lighthouse is just amazing.

Kalapathar Beach

Kalapathar beach in Havelock is a long stretch of white silky sand with big black rocks. One can enjoy fresh coconuts and mango juices in high season.

Sitapur Beach

Famous for its beautiful sunrises, silvery sandy beach that meets the turquoise waters of the sea.

Natural Bridge

It has 2 living natural corals formed just like a bridge. Neil Island is famous for this naturally shaped bridge-like rock also known as the Howrah Bridge.

 

DIGLIPUR

Ross Island ( Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Dweep)

This is the place where the British ruled the islands. It is an ideal place for all nature lovers with deers, peacocks, and exotic birds roaming around freely on this island.

Kalipur beach

Kalipur beach lies behind the tranquil village of Kalipur, and can easily be reached by taking a local bus from the main Diglipur bazaar. Primarily known for turtle nesting, it is one of the few beaches in the world, where four species of sea turtles (Olive Ridley, Leather Back, Hawksbill and Green Turtles) come to nest their eggs.

Saddle Peak

Diglipur provides a rare experience for eco-friendly tourists. The place is famous for its oranges, rice, forest wealth, and marine life.

 

PORT BLAIR

Cellular Jail

The Cellular Jail, also known as ‘Kala Pani’ is an old colonial prison situated in Port Blair. Light and sound show, a must watch, narrated by the Peepal tree which stood tall and witnessed the atrocities committed by the colonizers

Baratang

It is famous for its natural wonders from impressive Limestone caves to dense mangrove creeks.

MG National Park

Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park is situated 29kms from Port Blair and is 281 sq km with 15 small & large islands. All Guests need a forest permit to visit this national park.

North Bay

North Bay Island is the perfect place to indulge in watersports. The corals are spread over a vast expanse and the natural surroundings make for a picturesque backdrop. Snorkeling and scuba diving are popular amongst tourists.

Corbyn’s Cove beach

Ideal for swimming and sun-basking, Corbyn’s Cove is a quaint expanse. It is located approximately 7 km south of town and it shouldn’t take more than half an hour to get there. Include this in your Port Blair sightseeing for the tantalizing coconut and palm trees that line up the area.

Chidiyatapu ( Sunset Point)

Famous for its sunset, the Chidiya Tapu or Bird Island is worth visiting if you are in Port Blair. Not only does it offer an incredible view of the Andaman coastline, but the place also houses over 40 varieties of regional birds. Beautiful star corals and other seashells can be collected on the beach.

Wandoor beach

Wandoor beach is one of the popular beaches of Andaman that lies at a distance of about 25 km in the east of Port Blair. It is a pictorial beach and a major tourist.

Mount Harriet

Mount Harriet is the highest peak in South Andaman Island and the second-highest peak in the whole of the Andaman Islands. Mount Harriet is situated in Port Blair, the capital city of the Andaman Islands.  The Mount Harriet National park is one of the closest wilderness areas to the capital of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Port Blair. The park contains some of the highest peaks in the Andaman Group of Islands and is covered with dense evergreen and semi-evergreen forests of outstanding natural beauty.

Kalapani Museum

The museum contains fantastic gems depicting the history of the Andamans and you can discover very unknown connections between the place and India’s history.

Anthropological Museum

It is ideal for those who are interested to know about the historical past of the Andaman Islands. It offers wonderful information about the initial tribal settlements, their living, lifestyle, culture, etc.

Samudrika( Naval Marine Museum)

A great resource for taking a quick walkthrough on the history and culture of the Andaman islands, its flora, and fauna, and most importantly its various indigenous tribes.

Forest Museum

This museum has a beautiful collection of wooden furniture, bamboo crockery, wooden toys, and decorative items.

Chatham Saw Mill

The mill was set up under the British administration in 1883 and is a well-known wood processor in Asia.
